campus. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of
Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.
Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an
acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most
recent 39 month period from date of hire. Ability to obtain
Chlorofluorocarbon Certification within six months of employment
date. Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of
employment to include audiogram, asbestos worker clearance,
respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test. This
position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and
may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends,

posted End Date. Job Description: Facilities Management, Tempe
Central Plant, seeks a HVAC Central Plant Mechanic (HVAC
Refrigeration Technician) to install, repair, overhaul, and
maintain chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and other large
utility equipment and systems on ASU’s campuses Essential Duties:
Maintain and repair central plant equipment, including chillers,
boilers, motors, pumps, valves, controls, cooling towers, fans, and
other auxiliary equipment. Maintain and repair steam, hot water,
and condensate systems. Make recommendations for repairs or
equipment replacements. Availability for emergency service calls.
Conduct site-wide maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair duties
for chillers, cooling towers, and central plant equipment.
Coordinate with service providers as needed. Perform daily and
monthly preventative maintenance on all associated equipment of
chillers, cooling towers, and central plant equipment. Ensure
completion of maintenance within the scheduled month and allocated
time. Input maintenance and repair activities into CMMS.
Maintaining positive relationships with customers, vendors, and
co-workers Provide technical support and troubleshooting, repair,
and maintenance of all on-site equipment. Attend meeting in regard
to wide range of operational issues. Comply with ASU safety
policies and procedures. Work directly with plant personnel to
ensure reliable plant operations. Operate and monitor computer
control system equipment; detect source and nature of system
problems. Calibrate, repair and replace sensing devises to
specifications. Read gauges and instruments and adjust mechanisms.
Operate refrigeration recovery equipment in compliance with EPA
guidelines. Clearly communicate to perform essential functions of
the job. DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 7:00AM – 3:30PM Work
schedule may vary based on assigned area and coverage SALARY RANGE:
$30.00- $32.00 per hour based on experience and education. ASU

Desired Qualifications: Must have six years of progressively
responsible HVAC or refrigeration experience; OR, any equivalent
combination of education and/or experience from which comparable
skills, knowledge and abilities have been achieved. Some positions
may require chlorofluorocarbons certification upon employment.
Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of
the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout
employment. Experience in: higher education facilities electrical
systems up to and including 480-volt 3-phase systems.
commercial/industrial HVAC troubleshooting for heating, cooling,
and electrical. automation systems and process controls.
commercial/industrial maintenance and repair water treatment
systems and technologies work order tracking systems adherence to
safe work practices. Evidence of: working within diverse industrial
plant settings, including large central plants and smaller,
building-level chiller systems. being a graduate of
accredited/certified Trade School. EPA CFC certification. effective
communication skills Working Environment: Utilize power tools (e.g.
drills, generators, saws, lifts, vacuum equipment). Climb ladders,
ladder wells, and stairs. Work off ladders using hand tools and
power tools to include working off lift platforms and boom trucks
at heights above six feet. Use lifting, moving, and rigging
equipment to safely move, transfer, or relocate heavy equipment.
Operate refrigeration recovery equipment in compliance with EPA
guidelines. Handle CFC refrigerant. Work in adverse working
conditions such as confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes,
vaults), dirty areas, low lighting, and extreme temperatures.
Stoop, bend, and reach. Travel throughout campuses. Lift up to 75
pounds. Ability to push and/or pull approximately 200-300 pound
weight loaded on wheeled maintenance carts to transport tools and
equipment throughout plants Drive University vehicles. May be
exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment
which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be
followed, and will include the use of Personal Protection Equipment
(PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure
and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical
clearance prior to use. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma
and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of
assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience
and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and
