Job Description
As the Manager of Metallurgy & Strategic Planning, you will be
responsible for the management and oversight of strategic
metallurgical projects, with specific focus on the extractive
metallurgical performance of future processing plants. You will
develop production forecasts (including appropriate financial
analysis) to enable economic trade-offs and new process flow sheets
for expansions, utilizing long-range forecasts.
Your role will involve leading strategic project planning,
including project identification and formulation, while
coordinating with key stakeholders on decision methodologies and
resource allocation. You'll interact with internal and external
resources on the company's growth projects, ensuring project
schedules and cost outcomes are achieved.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mineral
processing, strong analytical skills, and the ability to
collaborate effectively across multiple technical disciplines and
with executive management.
Duties and Responsibilities Lead strategic project planning
including project identification, formulation, and execution
oversight. Develop documentation of Feasibility Studies for new
projects and expansions. Interact with internal and external
resources on growth projects, ensuring schedule and cost targets
are met. Perform metallurgical accounting audits at mine site
concentrators and smelters. Prepare annual budgets and resource
plans for metallurgical operations. Recruit and manage new
personnel for the team. Support 10k reserve estimation by providing
metallurgical recoveries for various ore bodies. Prepare and
present update materials to executive management and external
business partners. Develop technical materials for patents and
conferences. Maintain and expand a network of industry contacts
focused on extractive metallurgy and mineral processing. Promote
industry best practices at operating companies across the
organization. Continuously improve production planning and
forecasting methodologies.
Required Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Ten (10) years of experience in
mineral processing. Five (5) years of experience in a mineral
processing concentrator. Three (3) years of experience working on
large growth projects involving mining and engineering companies.
Strong working knowledge of geo-metallurgical testing, data
interpretation, and modeling tools for forecasting. Strong working
knowledge of analytical techniques and complex mineralogy of large
Porphyry copper deposits. Demonstrated history of interpretation of
geo-metallurgical results and performance of regression analyses
and/or simulations. Ability to develop grade and recovery models
for ore types. Demonstrated data-centric capabilities using a
structured problem-solving approach with statistics and regression
tools. Excellent cross-discipline communication skills. Ability to
execute complex projects and manage multiple priorities.
Nice-to-Haves Working knowledge of Python and C# programming
languages. Specialized technical expertise in at least 3 of the
following disciplines and good general knowledge in 5: crushing,
grinding, flotation, copper smelting, precious metal refining,
solvent extraction, electrowinning, liquid-solid separation,
tailings, materials handling, process modeling and simulation,
statistical analysis, process control, sampling and assaying, and
metallurgical accounting. MBA or related certification/experience
in financial and economic evaluations. Experience in management of
large and complex projects covering several disciplines.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
Advanced degree or MBA preferred.
Criteria/Conditions
Willingness and ability to travel to Mine Site(s), up to 90 days
per year.
