Engineering Technician provides the initial traffic count data for
all transportation improvement and in-house maintenance projects.
This traffic count data is then used to determine the number of
traffic lanes, types of new traffic control devices, posted speed
limits, and other proposed project elements. The purpose of this
position is to collect traffic data information, including average
daily traffic volumes, peak hour traffic volumes, classification
and speed data, turning movement counts, and warrant studies on

- Two years of engineering technician, engineering design, or traffic counts experience
- Associate's degree or two years of college coursework in engineering, engineering technology, technical computer-assisted drafting, land surveying, or another related field relevant to the area of assignment
- A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Must obtain IMSA Certification - Level I & II Signs and Pavement Markings within two years of hire
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona
driver's license by the time of hireWe Also Value
- Two years of experience in traffic engineering or a closely related field
- Experience working in high-speed traffic

Contributions
- Complete assigned traffic engineering studies, including scheduling, field investigations, documentation, and design
- Collect speed, classification, and signal warrant data using counting equipment throughout Maricopa County
- Assist in the design, planning, preparation, and coordination of traffic engineering and civil engineering projects
- Maintain traffic count database and complete reports including Speed and Classification, Signal Warrants, Left Turn Phase Warrant, and Low Volume Roadways
- Provide field support to Traffic Maintenance staff, inspectors, and the public regarding signing and striping inspection, and placement of traffic control devices
- Operate, repair, and maintain traffic counter equipment, tools, and software

- Exerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly
- Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
- The work will occur in an office and field environment. While
performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be
exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions,
chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather
conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position
is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists,
gases, or poor ventilationMachines, tools, equipment, software, and
hardware
